Job summary

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a Librarian for the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women. The role involves professional library work, cataloging, reference services, and inmate library supervision to support offender education and program needs.

Responsibilities include planning and supervising staff, coordinating interlibrary loans, and maintaining library materials. Education options include a bachelor's with library science hours or a master's degree in library

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 21 semester hours in library science.
Two years of professional library experience.
A master's degree in library science will substitute for the education and experience.
Year-for-year substitution allows using library experience to substitute for education/experience.

Responsibilities

Assists in planning, direction, and supervision of clerical and paraprofessional personnel (inmates).
Supervises the inmate library daily and ensures the library program meets inmate needs standards.
Performs technical work acquiring, cataloging, and classifying books and periodicals; solicits donations from private sector and state library.
Provides specialized reference, bibliographic, reader's advisory, interlibrary loan and research services.
Maintains current awareness of library materials in the field.
Prepares in-house displays and activities.
Ensures outgoing legal mail is documented.
Handles legal tapes and CDs appropriately and forwards items when inmates transfer.
