Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Food Service Instructor to guide inmate workers in meal preparation and food service.

You will teach kitchen skills, ensure safety, and help inmates gain vocational experience in a structured environment. This role leads food service activities, maintains sanitation, and supports daily operations with 40-hour weeks and shift times 11:30 AM–7:30 PM or 4:45 AM–12:45 PM.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation.
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

Responsibilities

• Teach inmates how to prepare, cook, bake, and serve meals according to recipes
• Ensure safe and sanitary operation of tools, equipment, cleaning methods, and storage procedures
• Check food service areas, supplies, and equipment for sanitation standards
• Receive, store, and track food items while following proper inventory rotation
• Assign inmate duties, review performance, and maintain worker records
• Maintain care and supervision of inmates during food service activities
