Job summary

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office is seeking Corrections Deputies to join a seven-day, 24-hour jail operation. Deputies maintain custody, supervise inmates, and perform inspections, searches, and record-keeping to ensure safety and compliance.

Applicants must meet state standards, pass background checks, and be willing to work rotating shifts, including nights and overtime. Prior corrections experience or military service is preferred; a high school diploma or GED is required, with Michigan

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
• Michigan Corrections Academy certification preferred.
• No prior felony convictions.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Background investigation and clinical evaluations required.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends and holidays; overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inmate inspections and ensure proper custody per housing classification.
• Monitor movement of inmates and document activities.
• Escort and search inmates per policies.
• Maintain records and prepare reports for grants and programs.
• Administer first aid and respond to medical emergencies.
• Attend court and Sheriff’s trainings; follow supervisory orders.
