Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks a Corrections Counselor 1 at SCI Smithfield in Huntingdon County. You will guide inmates toward positive change, support daily adjustment, and connect inmates with programs.

Work hours 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday–Friday, with no telework option, salary range listed for new hires. Qualifications include 3.5 years corrections officer experience or a bachelor’s plus 18 credits in related fields; CLEAN/JNET certification within two months; residency andCJIS background

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years 6 months as a corrections officer or a bachelor’s degree with 18 credits in sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field.
Equivalent combination of experience and training with 18 credits in related field.
Must obtain CLEAN/JNET certification within two months of employment and maintain it.

Responsibilities

Conduct inmate interviews to discuss adjustment issues and available support resources.
Maintain simple records, prepare routine reports, and document inmate progress.
Provide information about educational, vocational, and re-entry programs and how to access them.
Communicate updates with staff, families, and outside agencies clearly and respectfully.
Support positive conduct by giving feedback, discussing expectations, and reinforcing rules.
Assist with routine caseload tasks and preparation for meetings and evaluations.
