Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) seeks a counselor to plan, coordinate, and implement counseling programs for inmates in Chaparral, NM. You will conduct interviews, develop PSD folders, and provide direct counseling to address personal and social needs.

The role emphasizes ongoing individual and group counseling, plus implementing educational and vocational initiatives. Associate’s degree and relevant correctional experience are preferred, with a valid driver’s license in NM/TX often

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in counseling or related field required; 1 year related experience preferred.
• 90 credits hours from an accredited college or university in a related field may be considered in lieu of an Associate’s degree.
• Four years of correctional experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Responsibilities

• Review background files, conduct interviews, and test as needed to tailor a program for each inmate.
• Create and maintain PSD folders for each inmate.
• Provide direct counseling to inmates with personal problems and needs.
• Offer ongoing individual and group counseling for education, vocational, and social adjustment.
• Recommend and implement educational, vocational, and cognitive programs during the sentence.
• Monitor progress and maintain documentation of each inmate’s development program.
• Coordinate staff training sessions to improve guidance and social adjustment skills.
