Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking a Corrections Case Manager to oversee an assigned caseload of juveniles. The role involves individual/group counseling, developing and implementing treatment programs, and preparing court reports and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling and guidance, criminology, social work or related field.
  • Experience in an area of corrections programming or treatment may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in inmate counseling, security or treatment in a correctional setting or in counseling, counseling and guidance, as a probation and parole officer, mental health counselor or social worker.
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral science field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Five years of experience at Correctional Officer 2 or higher may substitute for required training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and/or group counseling to an assigned caseload of juveniles.
  • Develop and implement treatment programs and case histories.
  • Gather social and placement history, treatment and court information on juveniles.
  • Write reports and recommendations for circuit courts regarding juvenile behavior, placement and performance.
  • Serve as liaison between juveniles, legal representatives, family members, treatment providers, and court officials.
  • Compile information for juveniles' involvement in crime to assist in treatment planning.
  • Maintain records and statistics related to caseload and programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Nature of Work

Under general supervision, the Corrections Case Manager will function as a member of a team providing services to an assigned caseload of juveniles. The work of the Corrections Case Manager will consist of providing individual and/or group counseling, assistance in the development of and then implementation of treatment programs, developing case histories, gathering social and placement history, treatment, and court information on juveniles, writing reports and recommendations regarding juvenile behavior, placement, and performance for the circuit courts, acting as a role model for the juvenile as well as serving as the liaison between the juvenile, legal representatives, family members, treatment providers, and/or court officials. Compiles information for juveniles’ involvement in crime and criminal activities, records database statistics, and recommends treatment programs to assist the juvenile in controlling and overcoming problems. Will perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
