Job summary

The State of Maine seeks a Correctional Trade Instructor at Maine State Prison in Warren to supervise and train residents in building trades, construction, and agriculture. You will manage safety, workflow, and educational activities to support rehabilitation and reentry.

Qualifications include a high school diploma and at least three years in a skilled trade; the role includes operating tools, enforcing rules, and coordinating with treatment teams.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Three years of education and/or experience in a skilled trade (e.g. carpentry, electrician, plumbing).

Responsibilities

• Observe, monitor, and evaluate resident work activity.
• Instruct residents individually and in crews using various methods.
• Record work activities and prepare reports of results.
• Instruct residents in collateral and trade duties.
• Plan and schedule residents' work crews for productive training.
• Communicate behavioral observations to treatment teams and recommend corrective actions.
• Instruct and supervise use of equipment, tools, materials, and PPE.
• Counsel residents regarding institutional rules, health and safety, and treatment strategies.
• Respond to emergencies to secure residents and maintain order.
• Assign residents to jobs based on project needs and experience.
