ADVERTISING/WORKING TITLE: CORRECTIONAL SENTENCE SPECIALIST-SES
This open competitive advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Hamilton Correctional Institution in the Classification department.
The Classification Department accurately assesses and classifies inmates based on their needs, risks, and behaviors. We ensure appropriate housing and program placements within the correctional system. Our goal is to enhance safety and security while promoting effective rehabilitation, ultimately aiding in the successful reintegration of inmates into society.
This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.
Job Duties
  • Dive into the details by verifying and manually calculating tentative release dates, ensuring they align with commitment papers and legal statutes. Resolve discrepancies by communicating with relevant agencies.
  • Lead the charge in preparing release documents, verifying final release dates, and ensuring all necessary authorizations and records are in perfect order for inmate release.
  • Ensure precision by maintaining accurate data entry in the inmate information system and play a key role in training new employees.
  • Take charge of managing daily inmate records, including updates on cell changes, work assignments, disciplinary reports, and sentence modifications.
  • Be at the forefront of justice by preparing affidavits, testifying in court, coordinating inter-state detainer actions, and supervising the transfer of inmate files, all while ensuring compliance with policies and standards.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT:
The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.
