Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Must be 19 years of age or older.
• BAT or Associate's degree required during hiring process.

Responsibilities

• Stands watch in halls or towers to control movement of inmates.
• Supervises groups of inmates on work details; instructs inmates performing assignments; checks inmates in/out.
• Inspects quarters for safety and contraband; searches inmates and visitors.
• Maintains alert and reports unusual conditions; inspects doors, fences, and safety equipment.
• Drives transfer vehicle and maintains safety equipment.
• Explains rules and available services to inmates; assists with personal problems and opportunities.
• Observes inmate behavior and submits evaluation reports.
• Instructs inmates in personal hygiene, discipline, and proper etiquette.

Education

High school diploma or GED

BAT Certification (Basic Ability Test) for Law Enforcement Officers

Associate's degree or higher
