Job summary

The Florida Department of Corrections is offering an internal promotional opportunity for a CORRECTIONAL OFFICER LIEUTENANT at Madison Correctional Institution. This position oversees Correctional Officers and Sergeants, serving as initial commander during emergencies and managing shifts and security operations.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and coordinates the activities of Correctional Officers and Sergeants assigned to a shift.
• Acts as initial commander during emergencies and as facility manager during non-administrative hours.
• Plans, organizes and coordinates post assignments and leave; ensures attendance and leave reports.
• Conducts counseling and may recommend disciplinary actions to higher level management.
• Inspects for security and sanitation; conducts routine inspections and performance evaluations.
• Schedules training and ensures continuous security procedures.
