Responsibilities

• Maintain custodial care of inmates; escort them under restraint; patrol facilities; conduct periodic rounds and security checks.
• Monitor inmate movements and supervise work crews to maintain order and security.
• Observe inmate conduct to prevent disturbances, violence, escapes, or crises such as suicides.
• Investigate suspicious inmate activity; search individuals, packages, mail, and quarters for contraband.
• Foster relations with inmates and refer to medical, psychiatric, vocational services as needed.
• Prepare written reports on fires, disturbances, security breaches, and other incidents.
• Log daily activities; review activity reports for accuracy.
• Screen visitors; operate two-way radios; carry and use firearms when authorized.
• Assist in transporting inmates outside the facility.
• Prepare disciplinary and confidential reports; ensure compliance with departmental policy.
• Use force lawfully to maintain or restore order; carry and use firearms when authorized.
