Job summary

Franklin County is seeking a Correctional Officer to perform custody, supervision and non-professional counseling of adult inmates on an assigned shift. The role requires a high school diploma or GED.

Primary duties include directing inmate activities, inspecting living areas for safety and contraband, and maintaining security during meals and operations. Applicants must meet physical demands and participate in training.

Qualifications

• Must be able to speak and understand English, and follow oral and written instructions.
• Must demonstrate initiative and problem solving skills.
• Knowledge of basic first-aid practices.

Responsibilities

• Directs inmate activities in cell blocks, housing units, work areas, dining and recreational areas.
• Inspects inmate living areas for cleanliness, contraband, or stolen goods and escape implements, plans or procedures.
• Observes inmate behavior for signs of duress, disorderly conduct, or policy violations.
• Quells disturbances using training and reports involved inmates.
• Informs inmates of rules and changes in rules and regulations.
• Administers first aid to inmates or other employees when necessary; ensures appropriate medical attention.
• Supervises dining room activity and maintains security during meals.
• Assists other officers in emergencies and non-emergency situations.
• Controls access to and egress from the facility; monitors inmate blocks.
• Operates electronic equipment and documents information.
• Signs visitors in/out and ensures inmates do not receive contraband.
• Patrols facility to ensure safety and respond to incidents.
• Attends training sessions as required.
