Job summary

The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation is seeking Correctional Officers to enforce rules, monitor offenders, and maintain public safety across multiple facilities in the state. Training includes counts, transport, and search procedures, with opportunities to advance within the agency.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and may be subject to medical and psychological evaluations, background checks, and drug testing as part of the employment process.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Observe and monitor offenders to detect unusual or prohibited behavior and maintain custody and control.
• Escort offenders to and from various facility areas and learn to search persons and belongings.
• Conduct counts to ensure offender accountability and safety.
• Assist with intake/discharge procedures and transport offenders as needed.
• Enforce rules and state law to maintain public safety and order.
