Job summary

The Maine Department of Corrections is hiring a Correctional Officer/Cook at Downeast Correctional Facility in Machiasport, ME. You will help prepare and serve meals for about 2,200 inmates daily while maintaining security and training residents in kitchen sanitation and basic cooking skills.

Base pay ranges from $26.56 to $31.89 per hour, with a $1/hour stipend. Paid training, state certification, and full benefits are included.

Qualifications

• 18 years or older and a valid driver’s license.
• High School Diploma or HiSET/GED or equivalent.
• Two years in food preparation, serving and/or cleanup.
• Background check required; no serious criminal record.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve approximately 2,200 meals per day.
• Monitor security of assigned areas and supervise residents in kitchen.
• Instruct and train residents in kitchen sanitation and basic food prep.
• Counsel residents regarding rules, safety and treatment strategies.
• Respond to emergencies and use de‑escalation techniques to maintain safety.
