Functions:

1. Patrol facilities and conduct security checks; inspect all areas of the institution for safety/security deficiencies; search individuals, vehicles, packages, mail, equipment, clothing, and offender quarters for contraband.
2. Escort offenders, visitors, and staff inside/outside the institution; verify possession of passes or legal documents; participate in offender counts and verify offender populations.
3. Interact with the public, visitors, and victims, providing information, security, and assistance.
4. Observe offender behavior and interactions; communicate observations to staff to ensure security and effective offender management.
5. Assist offenders in developing problem-solving skills, provide positive reinforcement, and enforce policies and sanctions when necessary, modeling pro-social attitudes and behaviors.
6. Maintain logs, prepare reports, and document information in the electronic offender record system.
7. Supervise offender work assignments and evaluate performance.
8. Operate security and communication systems, including electronic doors, radios, alarms, CCTV, and computer terminals; use weapons and control devices.
9. Attend training sessions; may serve as team leader or trainer for staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Must pass psychological tests, background investigation, health screening, drug urinalysis, and complete all new employee training during probation. Some positions require obtaining a Commercial Driver's License and endorsements within a specified period.
