Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) in Omaha, NE is seeking a Behavioral Health Practitioner to provide essential mental health counseling to inmates, contributing to safety and rehabilitation. Licensed or provisionally licensed professionals are encouraged to apply, with compensation aligned to licensure level and program funding.

The role involves crisis intervention, documentation, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and on-call coverage.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology or related field required.
• Licensure as Mental Health Practitioner in Nebraska or eligibility for licensure as required at each Practitioner level.
• Provisional licenses acceptable for some Practitioner levels with Nebraska licensure prerequisites.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling and crisis intervention to inmates.
• Complete timely written documentation for assigned inmates.
• Consult with staff regarding inmate mental status and treatment progression; participate in multidisciplinary treatment teams.
• Screen and refer inmates to appropriate review teams.
• Assess risk for suicidal inmates.
• Assist in initial screening and orientation of new inmates.
• On-call Mental Health coverage outside regular hours.
• Other duties as assigned by the facility BHP supervisor.
