Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse for Baskerville Correctional Center #04181. The role offers a pay range of $31.10–$40.35 per hour with a $3,500 sign-on bonus, possibly up to $10k student loan repayment for eligible hires.

The LPN provides evidence-based nursing care under RN supervision, administers medications, and maintains medical records while coordinating with security and treatment staff to implement treatment plans.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Virginia LPN license or multi-state compact license; NCLEX-PN must be scheduled if a new VA graduate.
• Working knowledge of practical/general nursing care.
• Ability to screen complaints and refer to medical professionals.
• Maintain documentation and carry out providers’ orders.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care under RN direction using Standards of Practice.
• Screen sick calls, administer medications, provide first aid and basic life support.
• Maintain open communication with security and treatment staff to plan treatment.
• Record information into the medical record.
• Interact with other departments as needed.
• Promote continued competence through education/certification in correctional nursing.
• Be available to work hours/days/locations as assigned and provide coverage as needed.
• Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary.
