Job summary

MEDIKO is seeking a Substance Use Disorder Counselor to provide counseling, education, and intervention services within a correctional healthcare setting. You will work with patients experiencing substance use challenges, coordinating with medical and mental health teams to ensure compliant and comprehensive care.

The role emphasizes screenings, individual and group counseling, and discharge planning, with a focus on recovery and community referrals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Health or Human Services, or related field required; active licensure is needed.
• Active SUDP certification required; state credentials to practice in the role.
• 1–2 years of substance abuse counseling or related field preferred.
• CPR/BLS certification required; ACS/AHA guidelines followed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct substance use screenings and structured interviews to identify patient needs and risk factors.
• Provide individual and group counseling focused on substance use education, relapse prevention, coping strategies, and life skills.
• Deliver education on addiction, recovery, and healthy lifestyle choices.
• Support patients in setting recovery goals and developing action plans.
• Collaborate with healthcare, mental health, and correctional staff to coordinate services and referrals.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions, progress, and services.
