Qualifications

• Substitution: correctional experience may substitute education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inmate searches and cell shakedowns to ensure safety.
• Responds as first responder to emergencies (medical, escapes, fires, disasters).
• Prepares records and reports (shift logs, disciplinary reports, population records).
• Restrains and controls inmates using restraint devices when needed.
• Plans and coordinates activities of subordinates to meet priorities and avoid conflicts.
• Instructs employees and provides on-the-job training, including emergencies.
• Inspects facility for policy compliance with state standards.
• Maintains accountability for equipment such as handcuffs, keys, radios, weapons.
• Observes inmate behavior to ensure policy adherence.
• Records incidents and activities in the State's database.
• Performs security inspections (fences, grounds) to prevent breaches.
