Job summary

Responsibilities include overseeing inmate escort, headcounts, contraband searches, locking systems operation, and daily incident reporting. A valid driver’s license and experience in inmate security are essential.

Qualifications

• Two years as Correctional Lieutenant or four years in CO/series.
• Three years of staff supervision experience.
• Two years enforcing institutional rules and procedures.
• Knowledge to evaluate inmate security levels for housing.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Maintain control of inmates while escorting them within the facility.
• Keep accurate head counts at the security post.
• Conduct periodic shakedowns and searches for contraband.
• Operate manual and electronic locking systems.
• Enforce rules affecting inmate discipline, security and safety.
• Observe inmate activities to detect security threats.
• Ensure inmates meet care standards in living areas.
• Maintain custody during transport to other institutions or court appearances.
• Prepare daily logs and routine incident reports.
• May train and care for K-9 and kennel maintenance.
• May backup in riot control and pursue escapees.
