Job summary

The State of Tennessee is seeking a Correctional Lieutenant to supervise Sergeants and manage daily security operations at Lois M. DeBerry Special Needs Facility in Nashville. On-site work with mandatory background checks and drug screening.

Responsibilities include supervising inmate searches, coordinating shift activities, training staff, and ensuring policy adherence to state standards. Applicants must meet extensive qualifications and pass fitness, psychological, and drug screenings.

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school and five or more years of full-time security experience, including supervisory responsibility.
• Two years of supervisory experience and one year of adult correctional security experience; substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Must meet all required special qualifications and be willing to qualify with weapons and pass all screenings.

Responsibilities

• Supervises or conducts searches of inmates and vehicles and conducts shakedowns for contraband to ensure safety.
• Responds as a first responder to emergencies such as medical needs, escapes, fires, and disasters.
• Prepares records and reports including shift logs, disciplinary reports, and daily population records.
• Restraints inmates using devices as necessary to maintain security.
• Plans and coordinates activities of subordinates to meet priorities and avoid scheduling conflicts.
• Instructs employees and provides on-the-job training, including emergency procedures.
