Job summary

North Carolina Department of Adult Correction seeks dedicated individuals for the role of Correctional Food Service Officer I (S) in the COO - OPS - Institutions Operations division. The position involves supervising offenders, ensuring safe meal preparation and delivery within a secure facility.

Applicants must meet security standards, pass background checks, and complete medical/psychological evaluations. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
• Pass a criminal background check
• Produce a negative drug screening result
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• High school diploma or GED required or equivalent education/experience (for trainee path)

Responsibilities

• Supervise and instruct offenders in food preparation, serving, and cleanup activities according to established menus and schedules.
• Inspect food items and supplies for quality and quantity; report shortages or discrepancies promptly.
• Complete required documentation, including production records, temperature logs, and inventory reports.
• Coordinate timely meal service and distribution to designated housing units.
• Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing food and supplies in compliance with inventory control procedures.
