Job description

Reporting to the Correctional Associate Warden of Operations, this position provides supervision of staff and offenders and the performance of responsibilities in all phases of food management, including food ordering, menu planning, food preparation and service, sanitation, and record keeping. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Planning, directing, and supervising the preparation and serving of food to offenders at a medium custody correctional facility.
  • Ordering needed supplies and food items, planning time requirements for the preparation of meals, and managing a large food service operation within budget.
  • Creating staff assignments and schedules.
  • Comprehending and abiding by policy, post orders, standard operating procedures, emergency plans, and other directives governing daily activities.
  • Maintaining records and reports, with work being evaluated through inspections and analysis of reports.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits. The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.


About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):

The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.


About the Nash Correctional Institution:
Nash Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility located in Nashville, Nash County NC. It houses approximately 796 male offenders. The facility provides offender labor to two Correction Enterprises operations located on site: the Optical Plant and the Print Plant. The Optical Plant manufactures eyeglasses for customers such as Medicaid and the Division of Services for the Blind. The Print Plant is a full-service print shop dedicated to printing services for state government agencies, public school systems, state community colleges and universities, and non-profit organizations.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, or two years as a Correctional Food Service Supervisor: or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
