Job summary

The Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a Plumber for Lowell Correctional Institution in Ocala. This role involves installing and repairing plumbing systems, LP gas supply, waste collection, and potable water to support a major institution’s operations.

You will read blueprints, plan and organize work, supervise inmates under plumbing programs, and maintain records per department guidelines. Strong preference for those with plumbing trade experience and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience in the plumbing trade OR 4+ years of experience in the plumbing trade (training can substitute for experience).
• A valid Driver’s license.
• Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, education, work experience, work sample, interview and reference checks.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance and repairs for all plumbing systems, including LP gas supply, waste collection, and potable water.
• Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing fixtures such as valves, faucets, traps, sinks, sewer lines, vents, and sanitary fixtures.
• Conducts tests, maintains logs, and keeps records for equipment as per Department guidelines.
• Repairs, replaces, and checks high and low pressure steam boilers, safety devices, and controls, and cleans boilers, tanks, and water heaters.
• Reads blueprints, plans and organizes work, prepares reports, supervises inmates, participates in departmental training, and performs other related duties as required.
