Job description

Summary Statement

The class incumbent is responsible for managing and directing maintenance activities in mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems for all the facilities assigned to the Department of Correction.

Direct supervision of 4 Correctional Physical Plant Maintenance Superintendents, responsible for a staff of approximately 70 managerial, supervisory and labor/trades, employees and an inmate work force of 25-30.
Annual Operating Budget: Approximately 2.0 - 3.5 million.

Essential Functions

Manages and directs the overall maintenance of correctional facilities.

Assists in developing cost estimates for large scale mechanical and electrical repair work.� Directs major renovation, alteration, or repair work.� Inspects projects for conformance to safety standards.

Reviews and approves operational cost estimates, schedule needs and budgetary allowances.� Recommends funding allocation to each facility for maintenance requirements.

Supervises and directs the work of facility maintenance superintendents.

Assists in developing specifications for all major and minor capital purchases or services.� Authorizes payments for facilities maintenance functions.

Conducts special studies and prepares reports of finding and recommendations.


Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Correctional Facility Maintenance Manager
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

Three years experience in planning, directing and implementing maintenance and preventative maintenance programs involving all aspects of trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting or HVAC.
Three years experience in estimating cost, time and materials for projects.
Three years experience in interpreting safety and building codes, laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Three years experience in interpreting blueprints, schematics or technical drawings.
Six months experience in operations management which includes planning, directing, coordinating, controlling and evaluating operations typically through subordinate supervisors.

Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).�
