Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections in Polk County is seeking an Adult Basic Education/GED Instructor at Polk Correctional Institution to deliver Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model. The incumbent will teach assigned subjects, supervise inmates, maintain attendance, evaluate progress, and participate in staff development and budget processes.

A bachelor’s degree or higher and Florida Educator’s Certificate are required; temporary certificate

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university; or postsecondary education experience with the experience.
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
• Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire; Professional Certificate before expiration.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects in a correctional setting.
• Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls and maintenance of attendance records.
• Ensure order and discipline, evaluate student progress, administer grades and tests.
• Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
• Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development.
