Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections is seeking an Adult Education Teacher at Hamilton Correctional Institution to deliver Adult Basic Education and GED instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model. The role requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and the Florida Educator’s Certificate, with a temporary certificate allowable within 12 months.

On-site duties include classroom supervision, attendance tracking, and student progress

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
SPECIAL NOTE: Non-certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire. State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of Temporary Certificate.

Responsibilities

Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.
