Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch is seeking a dentist to provide direct dental care for the offender population within a correctional facility, in conformance with UTMB procedures and Health Services policies. The clinician works under the supervision of the Cluster Dental Director and may provide services across multiple facilities.

The position is located within a prison/jail setting in Huntsville, TX and requires security clearance and pre‑employment drug testing.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice dentistry in Texas.
• Current registration to practice dentistry in Texas.
• DEA registration certificate.
• BLS-HP certification.

Job description

The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs responsible general direct dental care services for the offender population of a correctional facility, in conformance with University procedures and Health Services policies. Works under supervision of the Cluster Dental Director with latitude for the exercise of independent judgement. May be required to provide dental services on multiple facilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Performs related duties as required.

EQUIPMENT

Standard patient care supplies, equipment and mechanical devices.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Located within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Licensed to practice dentistry in the state of Texas.
• Current registration of license to practice dentistry in the state of Texas.
• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) controlled substance registration certificate.
• Current BLS-HP.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• Two (2) years minimum general clinical practice preferred.

Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
