Job description

This position is located at Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury, N.C. (Rowan County), a medium-security male prison housing 800 inmates.

The role involves managing a caseload of inmates, providing supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, addressing inmate questions and issues, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Employees also assist with or coordinate major rehabilitation programs such as inmate work assignments, work release, education, recreation, and transition planning, including re-entry into the community.

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with State Benefits.

Effective January 1, 2025, the salary range will be $35,984.00 - $62,971.00, following new adjustments approved by the State Human Resources Commission.

The salary grade for this position is NC07. State employees are encouraged to apply, and if selected, a new salary will be recalculated based on relevant education, experience, funding, and internal equity, which may result in a pay increase.

To qualify, applicants must demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of Supportive Counseling Techniques

Qualifications include:

  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation, or a related field, OR
  • High school diploma or GED plus two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications include eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
