GEO Corrections & Detentions seeks a counseling-focused professional to support inmates/detainees, helping them adjust to facility life and access needed services. The role develops and implements programs, including individual and group counseling, to meet each inmate's needs.

Responsibilities include conducting orientations, counseling on work/housing and family issues, referrals for serious problems, and representing inmates at classification meetings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, or related field preferred.
• One year in caseload management of offenders in a correctional setting required or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
• Certified law enforcement officer experience or correctional/detention experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides counseling services to inmates/detainees and assists in adjusting to facility life and obtaining needed services.
• Develops and implements programs within the facility to meet individual needs of inmates/detainees, including individual and group counseling.
• Interviews newly admitted inmates/detainees and conducts facility orientation explaining rules, services, and classification processes.
• Provides individual counseling regarding work and housing assignments, adjustment problems, and family problems.
• Resolves day-to-day counseling problems and refers serious cases to professional counseling staff.
• Assists inmates/detainees in obtaining needed services and represents them at classification committee meetings.
• Monitors custody, housing, job and program assignments to ensure timely case reviews and conducts visits to those in special housing.
• Reviews medical status to determine eligibility for volunteer job assignments and performs other duties as assigned.
