Description of Work

This position supervises and trains inmates in all aspects of Braille transcription and production. This supervisor will supervise not only inmates working to attain their respective certifications, but will also supervise production of transcription services required by Correction Enterprise’s customers.

This position trains and supervises inmates in various aspects of Braille transcription of textbooks. The translation of print into Braille involves several different certifications in order to encompass the full spectrum of literary, formatting, proofreading, math, science, music and graphics used in the translation process. Each of these areas has its own certification requiring potentially several years for completion of all available certifications within the Braille industry.

The Correction Enterprise Supervisor receives orders from Correction Enterprises customers, such as the Department of Instruction, for the translation of printed books and other printed documents into volumes of Braille formatted files. This position will oversee the receipt of Braille orders via the BIDS order entry and job tracking system, distribution and team assignment of projects, ensure accuracy during the translation process and work to meet customer expected lead times.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Range: $39,244 - $68,679

Necessary Special Requirements

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission

Plant Specific Special Requirements

Agriculture - NC Pesticide License and NC Wastewater License

Cannery – Low Acid and Acidified Food Production certification must be obtained within one year of hire.

Laundry - Certified Professional Laundry Manager or Certified Laundry and Linen Manager certification.

Braille - Certified Braille Transcriber certificate must be obtained within 18 months of hire.
