AfterQuery is hiring its first dedicated in-house Corporate Counsel to own commercial contracting and employment law matters as we scale. You will be the day-to-day legal voice on deals and people matters, collaborating with outside counsel on specialized matters.

You’ll draft, negotiate, and refine data licensing agreements and DPAs, while advising on employment policies and compliance as the company grows in revenue and headcount. This role embeds in our Operations team.

Qualifications

• JD and active California bar admission.
• 3–6 years of experience spanning both commercial contracts and employment law.
• Boutique tech/startup-focused or generalist business law firm experience, ideally with in-house at an early-stage tech company.
• Strong judgment on risk vs. reward tradeoffs; decisive recommendations.
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight; know when to elevate to outside counsel.
• Strong written and verbal communication; cross‑functional collaboration with Sales, Finance, and People teams.

Responsabilités

• Draft, negotiate, and redline data acquisition and data licensing agreements with enterprise customers.
• Draft and negotiate MSAs, SOWs, and vendor agreements for compute/cloud infrastructure and lab clients.
• Own DPAs and data rights provisions in contracts; maintain templates and playbooks.
• Collaborate with Sales/GTM and Finance on deal structuring and risk tradeoffs.
• Advise People team on day‑to‑day employment and labor law questions; assist with compensation agreements and equity administration.
