With its corporate headquarters and primary manufacturing operations located in King of Prussia, PA, the organization oversees manufacturing, distribution, shipping, sales, and corporate operations from a single location.
About the Opportunity
The Corporate Controller will be the company's senior accounting and finance leader, reporting directly to the President/CEO and serving as a key financial and operational partner to executive management.
This is a highly hands-on role for someone who enjoys being close to the business, understands manufacturing economics, and can move comfortably between accounting, financial analysis, operations, and strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate will bring strong manufacturing and cost accounting experience, along with the ability to evaluate existing processes, strengthen financial controls, improve reporting, and help the organization scale its financial infrastructure.
A key component of the role will be evaluating the company's current accounting technology. The organization currently operates on QuickBooks and has reached a point where a more robust ERP solution is likely needed. The Controller will assess the company's requirements, make recommendations, and ultimately help lead an ERP selection and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the company's accounting and financial information.
- Manage the monthly financial close and ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Oversee general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, inventory accounting, and balance sheet integrity.
- Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in the appropriate accounting period.
- Identify and investigate significant financial variances and trends.
- Prepare and present monthly financial reporting packages, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, KPIs, and product-line profitability.
- Provide meaningful analysis of financial performance, operating trends, and emerging risks.
- Develop customer and product profitability analyses.
- Support pricing, quoting, RFP, and bidding decisions through margin and cost analysis.
- Analyze labor, production, and other operating costs.
- Translate financial information into actionable insights for executive leadership.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process.
- Monitor actual results against budget and investigate significant variances.
- Prepare periodic forecasts and reforecasts based on current business performance.
- Provide forward-looking analysis of revenue, expenses, profitability, working capital, and cash requirements.
Manufacturing & Cost Accounting
- Partner closely with operations to understand manufacturing costs and financial drivers.
- Analyze production costs, labor, inventory, margins, and product profitability.
- Provide financial insight into operational performance and opportunities for improvement.
- Support management in evaluating the financial impact of operational and business initiatives.
Cash Management & Working Capital
- Manage daily cash activity, liquidity, and bank relationships.
- Oversee bank reconciliations and cash reporting.
- Monitor working capital and cash requirements.
- Oversee accounts receivable, credit, collections, billing, and accounts payable.
- Maintain appropriate controls around customer credit, vendor payments, and corporate spending.
External Accounting, Tax & Compliance
- Coordinate with outside accountants, auditors, tax professionals, banks, insurance providers, and other external partners.
- Lead the annual financial review/audit process.
- Provide schedules and supporting documentation for tax preparation and other external reporting.
- Coordinate required government and regulatory reporting.
ERP & Process Improvement
- Evaluate the company's current accounting systems and processes.
- Assess ERP requirements based on the organization's size, manufacturing environment, reporting needs, and future growth.
- Recommend and help lead the implementation of a more robust ERP/accounting platform.
- Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and strengthen accounting and financial processes.
Executive Partnership
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the President/CEO and executive team.
- Provide clear visibility into financial performance, cash flow, profitability, and business risks.
- Partner with Sales, Operations, HR, and other functions to improve financial performance.
- Proactively identify financial, operational, credit, cash flow, and compliance issues.
- Help establish greater accountability around financial performance throughout the organization.
Team & Organizational Structure
- Reports directly to the President/CEO
- Serves as the senior accounting/finance leader
- Directly manages 2 accounting professionals supporting AP and AR
- Opportunity to evaluate the current accounting structure and determine whether an additional Junior Accountant or other resources are warranted
Ideal Candidate
The ideal background includes:
- Significant progressive accounting and financial management experience.
- Strong manufacturing accounting and cost accounting experience.
- Experience in a privately held or entrepreneurial operating environment.
- Experience with a company in approximately the $50M–$150M revenue range is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statements, cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Experience with inventory and production-related accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze margins, costs, profitability, and operational performance.
- Experience improving accounting processes, controls, and reporting infrastructure.
- ERP selection and/or implementation experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with QuickBooks or a comparable accounting platform.
- Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
