Stress Engineering Services Inc. We take on some of industry’s most difficult problems, utilizing approximately 275 employees, including 155 engineers across offices in Houston; Cincinnati; Waller, TX; and Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The Controller will direct and manage the accounting function with an emphasis on high quality accounting, internal controls, and good internal and external customer service.
This is an in-office position.
Responsibilities
- Oversee multi-site and multicurrency administrative and accounting activities in a newly implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP environment
- Manage monthly, quarterly and annual closing activities, prepare timely monthly consolidated financial statements, provide user-defined system generated reports, and manage account and intercompany reconciliations
- Identify, interpret, and apply technical accounting pronouncements
- Perform accounting research when necessary to keep company in compliance with GAAP and coordinate the annual audit
- Establish scalable general accounting policies, procedures, and controls
- Apply knowledge of GAAP and best practices to develop, maintain, and execute process documentation; maintain chart of accounts
- Aid in the evaluation and implementation of current and possible additional modules of Dynamics 365
- Coordinate monthly financial statement analysis and work with Practice Leaders, Senior Management and analyst(s) to develop and evaluate KPIs, providing these stakeholders with actionable financial information and analysis for making informed decisions and evaluating performance
- Evaluate company financial performance; and work with Practice Leaders and financial analyst(s) to communicate results, including key drivers and variances
- Examine each practice area and communicate financial outcomes to stakeholders
- Coordinate annual compliance requirements with Legal, Human Resources and other departments and locations
- Directly lead, mentor and supervise Billing, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable functions and personnel
- Manage sales and use tax issues and manage outsourced tax compliance process
- Oversee and manage client credit evaluation
- Coordinate activities with the Treasury function
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- CPA required
- At least three (3) years recent experience as a Controller managing an Accounting department required
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive work experience required
- Proficiency in advanced Excel functions required (e.g., V-lookups, Pivot Tables)
- Strong technical accounting and financial systems experience required
- Advanced skills in accounting required
- Highly developed analytical, supervisory, and interpersonal qualities required
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills required
- Must be a team player and able to interface with other personnel effectively
- Experience with MS Dynamics 365 or other major ERP software systems required
- Able to work effectively and in an organized manner in a fast-paced atmosphere. A results-oriented team player.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree preferred
- Audit experience a plus
- Knowledge and/or exposure to Power BI a plus
- Industry experience with firm(s) engaged in technical services, engineering, and/or architecture would be a plus
- Exposure and familiarity with project accounting and contract administration would be a plus
