Job summary

MRK Partners, a private real estate investment and asset management company, is seeking a Corporate Controller to own the monthly close process across 80+ entities and coordinate audits and tax cycles. This is a hands-on leadership role supporting executive decision-making.

You will drive consolidation, internal controls, budgeting and forecasting, and partner with leadership to shape financial strategy across 9 states and 11,000 units. CPA required and GAAP expertise are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• CPA certification required.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience with 3+ years as Controller in real estate or related industry.
• Experience leading multi-entity consolidation and intercompany reconciliation.
• Strong GAAP, internal controls and audit coordination knowledge.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Corporate Controller to be a direct financial thought partner to executive leadership and own the monthly close process for MRK’s corporate entities to keep our financial information accurate and timely. This is a hands-on ownership seat: you’ll manage consolidation across 80+ legal entities representing ~11,000 units across 9 states and coordinate our annual audit and tax cycle.

What You’ll Actually Own (Essential Duties & Responsibilities)

• Monthly & Annual Close: Lead the full close process end to end: cutoff discipline, GL review, journal entries, accruals, reconciliation standards, consolidation and timely reporting.
• Multi-Entity Consolidation: Oversee consolidation and intercompany reconciliation across dozens of legal entities, ensuring clean eliminations and balanced intercompany accounts.
• Internal Controls & Policy: Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures that protect the company and support operational efficiency.
• Executive Partnership: Provide financial analysis and reporting insight that directly informs business planning and leadership’s strategic decisions.
• Audit, Tax & Regulatory: Coordinate annual corporate audits, tax preparation, and regulatory filings as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Be a key participant in the budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and reporting cycles alongside department leaders.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
• CPA required
• 10+ years’ of progressive accounting or finance experience, 3+ years’ experience specifically as a Controller or Assistant Controller, within real estate, property management, development, construction, or a related industry, with demonstrated experience in complex, multi-entity environment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead both directly and through influence — this seat doesn’t currently have direct reports, but is expected to build and manage a team as MRK’s entity count and portfolio scales
• Strong GAAP, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and audit coordination knowledge
• Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar platforms preferred

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to:

• Travel up to four (4) times per year to Southern California, Philadelphia metro area, and other locations as needed.

The compensation range for this role is $160,000 - $180,000 dependent upon candidate experience and qualifications.
