JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Sacred Heart Community Service (SHCS), located in San José, CA, is seeking an experienced fund development and community engagement professional to build and grow SHCS’s community partnerships and lead the organization’s Volunteer Office.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, has a demonstrated record of building productive external relationships and generating financial, volunteer, or other forms of support through those relationships, communicates strategically, and works flexibly, collaboratively, and creatively. The ideal candidate is also committed to our vision of a community united to ensure every child and adult is free from poverty, to an approach of driving policy change through transformational leadership development, and to teaching and living an anti-racism and anti-oppression worldview.

For more than 60 years, SHCS has been one of the leading institutions addressing poverty in Santa Clara County through a strategy that combines impactful programs that address the consequences of poverty with building power with people to push for systemic change.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Partnerships Manager (CPM) builds and manages relationships with schools, universities, faith communities, civic organizations, and other community partners. The CPM develops those relationships into philanthropic giving, volunteer engagement, in-kind support, and deeper involvement in SHCS’s mission and advocacy work. The CPM also leads the development of youth and young professional committees and oversees the Volunteer Office, which delivers volunteer experiences for individuals and partner groups across SHCS.

The CPM serves as the primary relationship manager for assigned education, faith, civic, and community partners, while SHCS’s Community and Corporate Partnerships Managers manage assigned corporate relationships. The CPM works closely with the Fund Development team and the Community and Corporate Partnerships Managers to coordinate cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, volunteer engagement, and partner recognition. When partner organizations engage through the Volunteer Office, the CPM is responsible for the volunteer experience and coordinates closely with the staff member responsible for the overall partner relationship.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The percentages below represent estimated ranges of time devoted to each area of responsibility. Actual allocation will vary throughout the year based on partnership activities, volunteer needs, events, and organizational priorities.

Community Partnerships and Outreach (65–75%)
  • Cultivates, solicits, and stewards an assigned portfolio of existing and prospective community partners to achieve annual philanthropic revenue and engagement goals established in coordination with Community Development and Fund Development leadership.
  • Coordinates with the Fund Development team on solicitation strategy, gift processing and acknowledgment, donor credit, and stewardship so that each partner experiences one coordinated SHCS relationship.
  • Coordinates community partner giving drives and partner recognition and stewardship activities to strengthen relationships and increase philanthropic support.
  • Maintains accurate partner records, contact reports, and pipeline information in Salesforce and regularly reports on progress toward philanthropic revenue, engagement, and partnership goals.
  • Organizes community outreach through presentations, service fairs, networking events, open houses, and other opportunities. Represents SHCS directly, and recruits, prepares, and coordinates volunteer ambassadors to represent the organization, cultivate prospective partners in coordination with the assigned relationship manager, and generate philanthropic, volunteer, and broader community engagement.
  • Leads the development of youth and young professional committees that cultivate emerging leaders and engage members in giving their time, talent, and philanthropic support in furtherance of SHCS’s mission.
  • Conducts 1:1s with volunteers and committee members to deepen their understanding of the systemic causes of poverty, develop their leadership, and connect them to opportunities for philanthropic support, volunteer engagement, organization-wide events, and policy campaigns led by SHCS leaders, Organizing/Policy staff, or other designated campaign leadership (together, “SHCS-designated campaign leadership”).
  • Facilitates conversations about poverty, SHCS’s mission, and opportunities for deeper engagement, including philanthropic support, volunteer involvement, leadership participation, and connection to policy campaigns led by SHCS-designated campaign leadership.
  • Tracks, evaluates, and reports on community partnership results, including philanthropic support, volunteer engagement, partner participation, and progress toward goals established in SHCS Strategic and Operating Plans.
Volunteer Office (15–25%)
  • Oversees the operations of the Volunteer Office, including volunteer recruitment, placement with SHCS programs, scheduling, orientation, recognition, follow-up, and the development of volunteer leadership and ambassador opportunities.
  • Supervises Volunteer Coordinator(s), interns, and designated volunteer leaders, including recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, evaluation, and professional development.
  • Ensures high-quality volunteer experiences for individual volunteers and partner groups, including groups referred by Community and Corporate Partnerships Managers, and shares participation, outcomes, and follow-up information with the staff member responsible for the partner relationship.
  • Administers SHCS volunteer procedures, including screening, waivers, safety practices, and requirements for volunteers working with or alongside minors, consistent with organizational policies and applicable requirements.
  • Ensures accurate tracking and reporting of volunteer hours, participation, and engagement data to support grant reporting, organizational goals, partner stewardship, and evaluation of the Volunteer Office.
  • Develops, implements, and tracks Volunteer Office priorities, goals, and performance measures in alignment with department and organization-wide strategies and informed by volunteer, participant, and member feedback.
Organizational Leadership (10–15%)
  • Supports organization-wide programs, events, trainings, and outreach efforts, such as the Holiday Program, Pack-a-Back, and Solidarity Summit, by coordinating community partner participation and volunteer recruitment, staffing, and engagement.
  • Participates in the Manager Round Table and Emergency Response Team and serves as an on-site manager as assigned.
  • Supports SHCS policy campaigns by engaging and directing interested volunteers, community partners, and stakeholders toward advocacy opportunities developed and led by SHCS-designated campaign leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in community partnership development, external relations, volunteer engagement, fund development, or a related field, including demonstrated experience cultivating and managing relationships with external organizations and at least one year of staff supervision.
  • Experience managing a volunteer program or significant volunteer engagement operation, including coordination of recruitment, placement, training, and ongoing volunteer support.
  • Demonstrated skill in meeting and event planning, group facilitation, public speaking, and representing an organization with external partners and community audiences.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for partners, volunteers, donors, and community audiences.
  • Proficiency with CRM and database systems, including Salesforce or a comparable platform, as well as Google Workspace, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web-based communication tools.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and external relationships simultaneously.
  • Four‑year degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional or lived experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English or Vietnamese/English.
  • Experience engaging youth, students, or young professionals through leadership development, volunteer engagement, fundraising, or community-based initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Santa Clara County’s education, faith, civic, and community networks, with familiarity with local institutions and potential partnership opportunities.
