Job summary

West Fraser is seeking a Corporate Accountant to provide analytical and accounting support across our corporate divisions. You will learn our accounting cycles and become a subject matter expert, training others and preparing reports for senior finance leadership.

Responsibilities include month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting support with FP&A, and ensuring SOX compliance. A CPA path helps; strong Excel and ERP skills are essential for success in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field.
• 2+ Years’ experience in accounting or finance.
• CPA or plans to obtain CPA are a plus.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; Oracle, JDE or comparable ERP system preferred.
• Thorough understanding of GAAP/IFRS principles.
• High level of independence, accountability, teamwork, good judgement and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.

• Prepare journal entries and perform other month-end, quarterly and annual accounting tasks.
• Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and analytical reviews of income statement accounts.
• Support corporate functions and FP&A in budgeting and forecasting.
• Ensure SOX controls are performed and support audits.
• Collaborate with Finance and other groups to improve accounting processes.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and SOX standards.
• Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Job description

As a member of the Corporate Accounting Team, you will provide analytical and accounting support on a variety of topics, while learning and understanding all components of our accounting cycles for various corporate divisions within West Fraser. Once you have developed an understanding of our operations and policies, you will have the opportunity to become a subject matter expert in a specific area of our business. As a subject matter expert, you will become the go-to person for financial information including training other accountants and preparing reports for senior members of the finance team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare journal entries and perform other month-end, quarterly and annual accounting tasks.
• Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and complete analytical reviews of income statement accounts to ensure the accuracy and validity of transactions.
• Support corporate functions and FP&A in budgeting and forecasting and in ensuring actual spend is accounted for properly.
• Perform SOX controls and provide support in both the external and internal audits.
• Work with others in Finance and other internal groups to improve accounting processes.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and SOX standards.
