Job summary

Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is seeking a detail-oriented Materials Handler to move, inspect, and deliver components across the facility. You will perform cycle counts, inspect Detroit Diesel cores, and package materials for shipment while maintaining accurate records and safety compliance.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, 1–2 years of related experience, and the ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Move, sort, inspect, and deliver materials following prescribed practices.
  • Conduct routine cycle counts to verify inventory accuracy.
  • Inspect and document Detroit Diesel core components.
  • Package and prepare pass-through core materials for shipment.
  • Complete daily paperwork and update production boards.
  • Perform 5S audits and daily checklists.
  • Contribute to process improvements.
  • Report any safety concerns immediately.
  • Maintain clean, safe work area; practice good housekeeping.
  • Be flexible to move between work areas; work overtime as needed.
  • Participate in team huddles and communications to stay aligned.
  • Follow safety PPE and company procedures.

  • Starting pay of $19.55/hr. up to top pay of $27.59/hr.*
  • Quarterly gainsharing bonus potential

General Purpose of the Position

Move, sort, inspect, and deliver materials as directed following prescribed practices or instructions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine and systematic cycle counts to verify inventory accuracy across assigned storage locations, ensuring compliance with established schedules and company guidelines.
  • Inspect, identify, accurately document, and receive Detroit Diesel core components.
  • Package and prepare pass-through core materials for shipment to other distribution centers.
  • Complete all required daily paperwork and maintain accurate updates on production boards.
  • Conduct 5S audits and complete assigned daily checklists.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and suggesting process enhancements.
  • Use daily discomfort logs and report any sickness, injury, or safety concern immediately-regardless of severity.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area through consistent housekeeping practices.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by moving to various work areas based on production demands.
  • Be available to work overtime, including weekends, as required by the production schedule.
  • Participate in team huddles, group projects, and one on one communications to support team alignment.
  • Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and company procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma/GED
  • Years of Experience: 1-2 years' preferred experience
  • Other Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with core identification and strong product knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage work efficiently.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and problemsolving as needed.
  • Excellent attendance record and proven performance.
  • Solid math skills and strong memory retention (both considered a plus).
  • Ability to obtain forklift and fall protection certifications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self‑motivated and highly detail-oriented.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift and maneuver materials weighing up to 75 pounds with proper assistance, including the use of overhead cranes or approved lifting devices, following all safety procedures and team‑lifting protocols.
  • Use hands continuously throughout the shift, including gripping, manipulating, and positioning tools or materials.
  • Stand for prolonged periods (majority of the shift), including standing while working at benches or workstations.
  • Perform frequent bending, twisting, and torso rotation throughout the shift, including reaching to lower levels, turning at the waist, and maintaining bent‑over positions as required by task demands.
  • Perform frequent hand and arm movements, including:
    • Full‑fist gripping of tools
    • Pressing or pushing with thumbs and fingers
    • Twisting the lower arm
    • Turning or bending the wrist up, down, left, or right
  • Push and pull equipment or materials—such as carts, pallet jacks, or bins—on a regular basis.
  • Reach forward frequently during work processes.
