Job description

Core Lab Manager

Rocky Mountain Laboratories - Tempe, AZ

About Us

Rocky Mountain Laboratories is a clinical laboratory providing comprehensive laboratory services. We are dedicated to delivering accurate and timely diagnostic information and are committed to improving healthcare outcomes through cutting-edge technology and a customer-focused approach.

Position

Rocky Mountain Laboratories is hiring an experienced Core Lab Manager to run daily operations for clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology, and coagulation at our lab in Tempe, Arizona. You’ll lead and train the core lab team, take the lab to full operation, and own the workflows it runs on. You’ll also keep analyzers running, oversee QC, proficiency testing, and validations, and keep the lab inspection-ready. We need someone who has already managed or supervised a core lab, meets CLIA requirements for General Supervisor and Technical Supervisor in high-complexity testing, knows the Abbott Alinity ci or Architect ci platform, and can perform and train others on manual peripheral blood differentials, peripheral smear review, and urinalysis microscopy. This is a full-time, onsite role in Tempe.

Pay and schedule
  • Pay: $95,000 - $105,000 per year, based on experience
  • Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM; some flexibility needed based on lab needs
  • Job type: Full time, W-2
  • Location: Tempe, AZ (onsite; commute or relocate before your start date). Relocation help is available for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities
  • Run daily operations in clinical chemistry, hematology, immunology and coagulation
  • Serve as CLIA General Supervisor and Technical Supervisor as needed
  • Perform and train staff on manual peripheral blood differentials to confirm automated differentials, peripheral smear review and urinalysis microscopy, and run competency assessments
  • Maintain and troubleshoot analyzers, including the Abbott Alinity ci, Sysmex XN-530 hematology, Siemens CA-660 coagulation, Clinitek Advantus urinalysis and iSED sed rate reader, and oversee waived testing
  • Oversee LIS interfacing for the Alinity and Sysmex, manual result entry for non-interfaced instruments, and future interface or middleware projects
  • Lead the ramp-up of the core lab: bring tests live on instruments already in place, complete the verifications, and set up the workflows for daily operation
  • Review QC, QA and proficiency testing results, and lead trend reviews and corrective actions
  • Call critical results to providers and answer their questions about results
  • Write and edit SOPs that meet CLIA and CAP standards
  • Lead inspection readiness and corrective action plans
Required qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, chemistry, biology, or a related lab science (a master’s or doctorate reduces the experience required under CLIA)
  • MLS(ASCP), MLS(ASCPi), MT(ASCP), MLT(ASCP), AMT MT or an equal or higher credential
  • 4+ years of high-complexity testing experience in chemistry and hematology, including 3+ years managing or supervising a core lab
  • Qualified as a CLIA General Supervisor and Technical Supervisor for high-complexity chemistry and hematology under 42 CFR 493
  • Hands-on experience operating, maintaining and troubleshooting the Abbott Alinity ci or Architect ci integrated chemistry and immunoassay system, including QC and calibration
  • Extensive hands-on experience with manual peripheral blood differentials, peripheral smear review and urinalysis microscopy
  • Experience operating an automated hematology analyzer alongside manual differential confirmation
  • Method validation or instrument verification experience
  • Working knowledge of CLIA and CAP requirements
  • Experience setting up workflows and writing and editing SOPs
  • Able to work Tuesday-Saturday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM onsite in Tempe
Preferred qualifications
  • Training and hands-on experience on the Abbott Alinity ci, Sysmex XN-530, Siemens CA-660 and Clinitek Advantus
  • Experience ramping up, expanding or improving an existing lab, such as bringing instruments or tests online, interfacing analyzers or reworking workflows
  • CAP inspection or CLIA survey experience
  • LIS, analyzer interfacing and result verification experience
Benefits
  • Benefits begin 60 days after the first full month of full-time employment.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off (21 days annually)
