Job description

Job Title: Copywriter

About the Role

We're looking for a Copywriter to join our fast-growing, in-house creative marketing and content team at St. Louis CITY SC. This is an opportunity to be part of a club that's redefining what it means to be a modern soccer franchise, combining elite sport with best-in-class creative storytelling. If you're a conceptual thinker who understands marketing strategies and the content space and you have the ability to write with purpose, this role is for you.

You’ll work collaboratively across departments to craft ideas that transcend sport, connect deeply with fans, and energize the culture of soccer and the city of St. Louis. You will take on projects from concept to execution and inspire everyone around you to push for greatness.

This is a full‑time, exempt position.

What You’ll Do
  • Execute Creative Projects: From ideation to execution, work with art directors, designers and creative directors to guide the creative process, ensuring every word, campaign, and concept meets the highest standards of craft and creativity.
  • Big Ideas: Develop campaign ideas that break through the noise, connect with culture and make an emotional impact on fans.
  • Develop Sporting Content: Help support our matchday mandatories for Apple TV as well as offer support to the social team with ideas that delight across our digital channels.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner closely with art directors, designers, strategists, producers and creative directors to ensure every piece of work feels cohesive and aligned with the club's vision and values.
  • Understand Soccer Culture: Create work that feels authentic to the game and resonates with fans locally, nationally and globally.
  • Think Bigger Than Soccer: Help tell stories that are bigger than soccer and support our vision of a New St. Louis.
  • Write, Edit, and Refine: Bring ideas to life with sharp, compelling, and strategic copy across various platforms, from social media to email comms to long‑form storytelling.
  • Push Creative Boundaries: Help evolve the CITY SC brand and voice by constantly seeking new ways to connect with fans and the community.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience: 3+ years in a creative role in advertising or marketing, with a strong portfolio of conceptually driven, high‑quality work. Experience in sports or lifestyle brands is a plus.
  • Big Idea Thinker: You’re not just about headlines—you think strategically and conceptually, with a knack for solving problems in unexpected ways.
  • Master of Words: You have a love for language, with the ability to write sharp, inspiring copy that connects emotionally and elevates brands.
  • Soccer Fluent: You understand the game, the culture, and the nuances that make soccer fans tick.
  • Collaborative Energy: You thrive in a team environment, bringing positivity, energy, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves.
  • Detail‑Oriented: You sweat the small stuff, ensuring every word and every idea is buttoned‑up and polished whether in email comms or long‑form content.
  • Passion for Great Work: You dream about making work that doesn’t just win awards but also wins hearts.
What You’ll Love
  • Brand‑Led Approach: We believe in ideas and creating work that transcends sport, making fans and the city of St. Louis proud.
  • Unique Environment: A blend of the energy of a soccer club with the creative opportunities of an advertising agency.
  • Meaningful Impact: Your work will connect with fans, build community and contribute to the larger culture of soccer.
  • Collaboration at Its Core: You'll work with a passionate, talented team that values collaboration, innovation and the craft of storytelling.
  • Career Growth: Opportunities to lead and leave your mark on a growing creative department.
  • CITY Pride: Beyond soccer, everyone at CITY wants St. Louis to thrive—you’ll be working daily with people that care deeply about a future that is yet to be written.
What This Job is NOT
  • Slow‑paced. Sport is hard. It moves fast. Weekend work is standard through the season. Hours can be difficult. The job is demanding.
  • A job for a lone wolf. Collaboration and team spirit are non‑negotiable.
  • Limited to just soccer. We want work that connects with culture and inspires far beyond the pitch.

St. Louis CITY SC is building a team that is passionate about their work, the success of our Club and the growth and revitalization of our region. We desire people who hold themselves and others accountable and are driven by setting new standards for fan engagement.
