We are seeking a detail-oriented Copy Editor - German with experience in academic book publishing. The ideal candidate will have strong editing skills, a thorough understanding of academic standards, and the ability to enhance manuscripts while preserving the author's voice.

Key Responsibilities

1. Conduct thorough manuscript reviews, identify inconsistencies, and make corrections with the author’s agreement, ensuring adherence to editorial guidelines and citation styles (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago).
2. Maintain high-quality standards throughout the editing process, meeting specified deadlines.
3. Provide feedback on the organization and flow of content, including charts, graphs, and references.
4. Contribute to team efforts to improve quality and productivity.
5. Verify facts, dates, and statistics using reliable sources.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 2-4 years of copy-editing experience in academic publishing, preferably with books.
• Bachelor’s degree in German, Communications, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
• Proficiency in German.
• Familiarity with various citation styles and academic publishing standards.
• Strong understanding of the editorial workflow and content quality assurance.
• Excellent error correction skills in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax, with the ability to provide constructive feedback.
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
• Experience with pre-editing and copyediting tasks using systematic approaches.
• Previous experience working in a publishing environment and understanding of book markets.
