Job summary

The New Republic is seeking an experienced full-time copy editor to edit The TNR Blue Book and other editorial newsletters, while supporting our current copy editor on NewRepublic.com as needed. The shift runs Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–3 p.m., with a starting salary of $66,000 per year.

We welcome applicants who are detail-oriented, organized, and capable of fast, accurate editorial work, with strong AP style knowledge and experience in producing newsletters for readers and subscribers.

Qualifications

• At least seven years of copyediting experience, preferably at a news website or magazine.
• Experience with basic fact-checking.
• Familiarity with AP style and maintaining style guides while updating staff on house and AP changes.
• Comfort learning third-party applications, building editorial newsletters, and managing production and distribution.

Responsibilities

• Edit The TNR Blue Book and other newsletters, while supporting the current copy editor on NewRepublic.com.
• Coordinate newsletter production and distribution to subscribers.
• Adapt quickly to morning deadlines and maintain high editorial standards.

Job Description

The New Republic is looking for anexperienced full-time copy editor to edit The TNR Blue Book, our new morning newsletter devoted to covering Democrats and progressive groups, and other editorial newsletters, while supporting our current copy editor on NewRepublic.com as needed.

This is a full-time position. Please note the unique hours: Because The TNR Blue Book goes out early to subscribers and some fresh content is produced in the early morning, the hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.–3 p.m. The minimum salary for this role is $66,000.

The position is covered by the collective-bargaining agreement between The New Republic and The NewsGuild of New York, CWA Local 31003, AFL-CIO.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate is a fast, careful editor with a sharp eye for detail who can seamlessly pivot between newsletter production, marketing emails, and news. The candidate should be organized and know how to prioritize assignments and manage their schedule.
