Job summary

Houston City College is seeking a Governance Specialist to establish and oversee the governance framework for all public-facing digital properties within the Communications and Marketing department. You will oversee standards for how web content is created and managed, and develop training and resources to help contributors follow established expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Communications, Marketing, Information Technology or related field is required.
  • 4 years web content management experience required, preferably in higher education or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of CMS platforms and information governance is expected.
  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility guidelines and ADA requirements is preferred.

  • Support contributors by creating a structured environment for compliant content management and audits.
  • Guide content lifecycle governance and ongoing stewardship for accurate, relevant web content.
  • Partner with IT Accessibility Office to implement accessibility standards across web properties.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for content contributors and produce supporting materials.
  • Identify patterns affecting content quality and recommend improvements for a cohesive web presence.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Summary

Responsible for establishing and overseeing the governance framework for all public-facing digital properties managed by the Communications and Marketing department. Provides oversight of the systems and standards that guide how web content is created and managed, including the development of training, documentation, and resources that enable contributors to follow established expectations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Define, guide, and assess standards, processes, and practices that govern how web content is organized, maintained, and evaluated across Communications and Marketing digital properties to ensure alignment with institutional brand and communication priorities.

  • Support contributors by creating a structured and sustainable environment for consistent and compliant content management and providing structured approaches to content audits and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Guide content lifecycle governance and ongoing content stewardship, supporting a sustainable approach to maintaining accurate, relevant, and effective web content over time.

  • Partner with the IT Accessibility Office to implement and support accessibility standards aligned with WCAG and ADA requirements across Communications and Marketing web properties.

  • Partner with stakeholders to support accessibility improvements and remediation efforts.

  • Develop and deliver training programs for content contributors and create supporting materials, playbooks, and documentation.

  • Identify patterns and systemic issues affecting content quality and consistency and recommend improvements that support a cohesive, accessible, and sustainable web presence.

  • Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor degree in Communications, Marketing, Information Technology or related field required

  • 4 years web content management experience required, preferably within a higher education or similar environment


Licensing & Certification


  • Valid Texas Driver License

Working Conditions

General Office.
