Job summary

WestRock Company in Montgomery, AL seeks a Technical Trainer to lead on-the-floor training and certify operators, reporting to the site General Manager/ Plant Manager with dotted lines to Operations Learning & Development. You will assess machine skills, provide feedback, and oversee certification processes for line progression.

You will also support New Hire Orientation, track training using standard tools, and create technical learning aids.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years’ experience conducting/leading training in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems preferred (LMS).
  • Microsoft Office experience preferred: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Forms.

Responsibilities

  • Completes daily technical training on the floor to assist with certification of team members.
  • Partners with OPS L&D to support New Hire Orientation/On Boarding Training as needed.
  • Assists with tracking, evaluating, and measuring training locally using training standards and LMS tools.
  • Supports site-specific technical learning solution creation (SOPs, guided workflows, technical learning aids).
  • Develops and maintains relationships with trainees and leaders.
  • Participates in new teammate hiring process by assessing candidates’ skills and contributing to hiring decisions.

Job description

The Technical Trainer assists with training processes locally. The role reports into the site General Manager/ Plant Manager and dotted lines into Operations Learning & Development, to ensure training is completed for Operator/ Craft Job Certification.

The role will be a key contact/ trainer for team members and be responsible for teammate assessments regarding machine skills - providing feedback, machine certification responsibility, and conducting assessments related to line of progression movements.

Major Job Responsibilities:
  • Completes daily technical training on the floor to assist with the Certification of team members in their roles
  • Partners with OPS L&D leader to support New Hire Orientation/ On Boarding Training, as needed
  • Assists with tracking, evaluating, and measuring training locally using the company’s Dept. Training Standards & Learning System tools
  • Supports site specific technical learning solution creation (SOP’s, Guided Workflows, Technical Learning Aids - to assist with training)
  • Develops, builds, and maintains relationships with trainees & leaders in their role
  • Participates in new teammate hiring process - assesses candidates’ skills (general and/ or machine, involved in interview process to assess industrial experience, and provides perspective on hiring decisions)
  • Conducts training on all shifts
  • Influences others to be safety-minded
  • Team member will be certified through a Train the Trainer process, support managing day to day Certification Processes & will be supported by Ops L&D with training tools & general knowledge content
  • Additional duties as assigned

Technical Skills:
  • 1 - 3 years’ experience conducting/ leading training, including On-The-Job training, or similar, in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • 2 - 4 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems preferred
  • Microsoft Office Experience Preferred- Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Forms
