Coordinator, Teacher Education Programs (Full-Time | 9-Month)

Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) seeks a student-centered, innovative, and collaborative Coordinator of Teacher Education Programs to provide leadership for the College's Early Childhood Education, Residency Licensure/Educator Preparation Program (EPP), Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation, and Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation programs.

This position combines academic program leadership, instruction, student advising, faculty coordination, and partnership development to support students preparing for careers in education. The Coordinator works closely with faculty, school systems, early childhood education providers, colleges and universities, and other community partners to strengthen educational pathways and prepare students to serve as effective educators.

Under the supervision of the Department Head, Public Services, the Coordinator of Teacher Education Programs provides leadership for assigned teacher education programs, coordinates curriculum and course offerings, teaches Education (EDU) and cooperative education courses, advises students, supports and evaluates part‑time faculty, coordinates field‑based learning experiences, and leads ongoing program development and evaluation in accordance with North Carolina Community College System requirements, applicable Educator Preparation Program requirements, articulation agreements, and College policies.

Essential Responsibilities
Teacher Education Program Leadership
  • Provide leadership and coordination for the Early Childhood Education Program, Residency Licensure/Educator Preparation Program (EPP), Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation, and Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation.
  • Coordinate program activities, goals, and objectives in collaboration with the Department Head.
  • Support the ongoing development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of assigned programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective program processes that support student progression and successful completion.
  • Monitor program needs and recommend appropriate resources, equipment, supplies, and instructional materials.
  • Report progress toward program objectives to the Department Head.
  • Support sound fiscal management practices and assist with development of the annual program budget.
  • Maintain current knowledge of requirements, standards, and emerging practices affecting teacher education programs and pathways.
Instruction
  • Teach assigned Education (EDU) courses using engaging, student-centered instructional practices.
  • Teach cooperative education courses, seminars, and field-based assignments as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with approved course and program learning outcomes.
  • Deliver instruction in appropriate face-to-face, online, hybrid, and other instructional environments as assigned.
  • Utilize instructional technology and evidence-based teaching practices to enhance student learning.
  • Maintain current knowledge of developments, practices, and trends within teacher education and early childhood education.
  • Assess student learning and use assessment results to support continuous improvement.
Faculty Leadership and Support
  • Assist with identifying and recommending qualified part‑time faculty for appointment.
  • Support the orientation, coordination, and ongoing development of part‑time faculty within assigned programs.
  • Evaluate assigned part‑time faculty in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Promote instructional quality and consistency across Education course offerings.
  • Collaborate with faculty regarding curriculum, instructional resources, student learning outcomes, and program needs.
  • Coordinate course scheduling recommendations in collaboration with the Department Head and Division leadership.
Student Success and Advising
  • Advise students regarding program requirements, course sequencing, teacher preparation pathways, transfer opportunities, and program completion.
  • Track student progress through program requirements and provide proactive support when barriers to completion are identified.
  • Support students participating in cooperative education, field experiences, and other field-based learning opportunities.
  • Connect students with appropriate College resources and support services.
  • Promote student persistence, retention, completion, transfer, licensure, and career readiness.
  • Support students as they transition between WPCC programs, four‑year institutions, educator preparation pathways, and employment.
Curriculum, Assessment, and Continuous Improvement
  • Coordinate curriculum development and revisions in collaboration with the Department Head.
  • Monitor curriculum requirements and recommend changes necessary to support program quality and student success.
  • Support assessment of student learning outcomes and overall program effectiveness.
  • Use program and student success data to inform planning and continuous improvement.
  • Support institutional effectiveness, program review, and accreditation‑related activities as applicable.
  • Coordinate textbook recommendations and instructional resources.
  • Prepare and submit required program reports and documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to program operations, student progression, field experiences, and other program requirements.
Educator Preparation and Field-Based Learning
  • Coordinate and support activities associated with the College's Residency Licensure/Educator Preparation Program (EPP).
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable North Carolina educator preparation and teacher licensure requirements.
  • Support students navigating residency licensure and other teacher preparation pathways.
  • Coordinate cooperative education, field‑based assignments, and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Maintain effective relationships with school systems and other educational partners supporting field placements and teacher preparation.
  • Work collaboratively with educational partners to ensure field-based experiences support program and student learning objectives.
Partnerships and Community Engagement
  • Develop and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with local school systems, early childhood education providers, colleges and universities, governmental agencies, employers, and community organizations.
  • Strengthen partnerships that support student recruitment, transfer, field experiences, educator preparation, and employment.
  • Collaborate with four‑year institutions to support seamless transfer pathways for Teacher Preparation students.
  • Represent Teacher Education Programs at appropriate College, community, regional, and professional activities.
  • Support outreach and recruitment initiatives designed to strengthen enrollment and expand pathways into the education profession.
Collaboration and College Service
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, administrators, school systems, educational partners, and community organizations to advance Teacher Education programs and student success.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional meetings and activities.
  • Serve on departmental, divisional, and College committees as assigned.
  • Participate in College events, recruitment activities, professional development, and other institutional initiatives.
  • Submit required schedules, budget information, travel requests, textbook recommendations, purchasing requests, reports, and other documentation in accordance with College procedures.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, values, policies, and strategic priorities of Western Piedmont Community College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Applicants must meet the minimum faculty credential requirements established by the North Carolina Community College System and Western Piedmont Community College.

  • Master's degree in Education from an accredited college or university;
  • OR
    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Education.
    • Teaching experience at an institution of higher education.
    • Demonstrated organizational and program coordination ability.
    • Must currently hold or have previously held a North Carolina teaching license and be eligible to obtain North Carolina teacher licensure. An active license at the time of application is not required.

Preference may be given to applicants who possess one or more of the following:

  • Graduate‑level education or specialization in Early Childhood Education, Birth‑Kindergarten Education, Teacher Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with an Educator Preparation Program (EPP), Residency Licensure Program, or other teacher licensure pathway.
  • Experience coordinating an academic program, educational program, or related initiative.
  • Experience teaching Early Childhood Education or Teacher Education courses at the postsecondary level.
  • Experience advising community college students and supporting student persistence and completion.
  • Experience coordinating cooperative education, field experiences, clinical experiences, or other work‑based learning opportunities.
  • Experience recruiting, mentoring, coordinating, or evaluating part‑time or adjunct faculty.
  • Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with public schools, early childhood education providers, colleges and universities, or community organizations.
  • Knowledge of North Carolina teacher preparation, transfer, and residency licensure pathways.
