Job summary

Alcorn State University in Mississippi invites applications for a Coordinator, Residential Community. This role supervises and trains residential staff, promotes a safe living environment, and enforces housing policies to support students in a diverse campus community.

You will conduct inspections, coordinate housing services, orient new residents, and connect students with counseling and academic resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
• Two (2) years’ experience in Residence Life or Student Affairs required.
• Knowledge of residence housing best practices and procedures is preferred.
• Excellent customer service skills are essential.
• Good computer skills are required.
• Good supervisory skills are required.
• Strong communication skills, verbal and written, are essential.
• Self-motivation is important.
• Ability to deliver housing services to a diverse student population.
• Ability to resolve conflicts and solve problems.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and trains residential community staff in operational procedures, crisis management, health and safety issues and standards of the residential communities.
• Promotes a safe and comfortable living environment for all residents.
• Enforces Residential Life and University policies, rules and regulations in the residential community.
• Reports incidents, injuries/illnesses and policy violations to the Housing Office.
• Conducts daily and weekly building inspections and reports damages through the established forms.
• Plans and facilitates activities to help residents grow and connect.
• Coordinates cleaning and repairs of resident hall with maintenance and custodial supervisors. Provides lock-out and emergency assistance to residents.
• Maintains current and accurate room rosters and condition reports for each resident; ensures proper procedures are followed when residents check in, changes rooms or moves out.
• Conducts new resident orientation and advises students of their right to due process under the University’s Judicial Review Process.
• Serve as a referral agent to other campus resources such as the Counseling Center and Academic Center.
• Acts as liaison for students of residential communities at administrative staff meetings to provide student input.
