Job description

Department & Unit: CDT. Work Shift: Day (United States of America). Salary Range: $70,068.00 - $108,605.00. Purpose: The Organ Procurement Coordinator performs a variety of duties to increase the availability of suitable organs and tissues for transplantation. These duties include identification and management of the organ donor; placement of the organs; operating‑room responsibilities during procurement; and post‑donation debriefing. Duties may also include hospital and community education to increase donor awareness when assigned.

Key Responsibilities (95%)
  • Participate in a rotating call schedule and carry a smartphone. Call may exceed fifty percent of days in the month.
  • Work hours are dictated by donor activity; provide staffing support when case load requires.
  • Travel by company or personal vehicle, small chartered planes, helicopters, or limousine services.
  • Maintain professional relationships with the CDT team, hospital staff, donor families, medical examiners/coroners, and other professionals.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with CDT policy and applicable regulations.
  • Manage time to allow preparation of educational programs and other department activities.
  • Assist in hospital and community education and development (e.g., quarterly visits, CEU and non‑CEU programs, community outreach).
  • Identify and rule out unsuitable organs/tissues, and obtain legal authorization from families.
  • Document updates and outcomes in the DonorTrac Electronic Medical Record daily.
  • Coordinate organ donor management per CDT protocol, maintaining hemodynamic stability and ordering/performing appropriate tests.
  • Allocate organs to transplant centers per CDT and UNOS policy; enter donor data into DonorTrac and UNOS records; notify centers; arrange transport.
  • Assist in operating room procurement: coordinate OR scheduling, equipment, staff, preservation, packaging, and transport of organs.
  • Follow up with donor hospital within three business days; provide feedback and evaluate process improvement.
  • Attend daily morning huddles, weekly case review meetings, and other CDT quality‑improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Non‑essential Job Functions (5%)
  • Complete tasks as assigned by the CDT MO.
  • Attend additional meetings as required.
Qualifications
  • Prefer a degree in a health‑care field (associate’s or bachelor’s).
  • Strong preference for prior organ procurement experience, critical care nursing background, or operating room experience.
  • Preferred experience with the on‑call process.
  • Physically able to lift 75‑100 pounds.
  • Ability to work extended hours.
  • Strong record‑keeping, calculation, policy drafting, and technical training skills.
  • Experience with data entry and computer use.
