Job summary

Melmark seeks a Coordinator of Vocational Services to lead the vocational programs, design and implement curricula, and place students in internships and supported employment within the community.

You will collaborate with educators and clinicians to design highly technical programs for students with autism and other disabilities, ensuring safety and progress across settings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field required.

Responsibilities

Melmark is a nonprofit organization providing clinically sophisticated evidence-based special education, residential, vocational, and therapeutic services for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complexities, and other neurological and genetic disorders.

Coordinator of Vocational Services Overview

The Coordinator of Vocational Services is responsible for the total operation of vocational services under the direction of the Director of Educational Services. This position designs the program in the placement of students in vocational training and supported employment opportunities. The Coordinator of Vocational Services is responsible for curriculum design, development, and implementation. Melmark serves children, adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities and similar diagnoses who may exhibit severe challenging behaviors. The Coordinator of Vocational Services position requires that staff be aware that students may exhibit aggressive and/or self‑injurious behavior. The Coordinator of Vocational Services is expected to implement highly technical clinical and educational programs that require them to be constantly alert, attentive and ready to respond to student’s needs.

Schedule and Salary Information
  • Monday–Friday 8am–4:30pm

  • Salary Information:
  • Level 1 teacher cert with bachelor’s degree: $61,360.00 (+) based on years of experience
  • Level 1 teacher with master’s degree: $65,520.00 (+) based on years of experience
  • Level 2 teacher cert or master’s degree plus BCBA: $71,760.00 (+) based on years of experience
Requirements
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in special education or related services field required.
  • Equivalency in special skills and training in vocational rehabilitation with Pennsylvania teaching certification.
  • Strong teaching skills with emphasis on students who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Experience with vocational skill development and community placement of individuals and with the principles and application of applied behavior analysis. Strong interpersonal skills are required.
  • One to two years of experience in an educational setting, preferably with individuals with developmental disabilities who exhibit challenging behaviors. Experience with vocational skill development in applied settings.
Coordinator of Vocational Services Responsibilities
  • Effectively develop, expand, and manage all community relationships for vocational opportunities.
  • Effectively complete employment contacts within the community.
  • Conduct initial site visits, develop employment or internship opportunities, continue ongoing community site visits.
  • Demonstrate initiative in developing vocational department prospects.
  • Create and adhere to vocational schedule as designed; inform classrooms of schedule prior to each week.
  • Assist in vocational goal planning via gathering baseline data, summarizing and presenting in preparation for IEP planning meetings and IEP meetings.
  • Create vocational goals and objectives based on student strengths, preferences and input in addition to assessment data.
  • Follow all Melmark systems including BSP implementation and data collection procedures.
  • Work with curriculum coordinators and teachers to complete appropriate lesson plans prior to IEP meeting.
  • Ensure that accurately summed and written quarterly progress reports for all vocational goals are submitted within established timeframes.
  • Assist with transition planning as needed, including attending IEP meetings for students once they reach transition age (14).
  • Provide daily in‑classroom support by providing needed vocational support for students both inside and outside of the school building.
