Job summary

The Association of Former Students seeks an experienced HR professional to join the Human Resources team. You will support recruitment, employee relations and HR initiatives to promote a culture of professional service within the Aggie Network.

Responsibilities include recruiting, onboarding, maintaining HR records, assisting with payroll, and coordinating employee events while ensuring confidentiality and compliance. A Bachelor’s degree and 1–2 years in HR are required.

Essential Functions Of The Role
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism, confidentiality and integrity.
  • Facilitate recruitment and onboarding.
  • Support employee relations and engagement.
  • Maintain HR records and reports.
  • Assist with HR projects and programs.
  • Promote team culture.
  • Work on-site to support daily HR operations.
ROUTINE DUTIES
  • Serve as partner with hiring managers to develop and implement effective recruitment strategies.
  • Coordinate onboarding and departure processes.
  • Conduct student new hire orientations.
  • Process all new and departing employees and all change of status forms.
  • Review and maintain employee handbook.
  • Manage the maintenance of current position descriptions.
  • Process confidential matters and either resolve or refer to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist with timesheet and payroll preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with I-9 Employment Eligibility verification and periodically audits I-9 forms.
  • Coordinate employee appreciation, birthday, retirement and holiday events.
  • Assists with planning for quarterly All-Team Meetings.
  • Maintain inventory of department supplies.
  • Promote proactive approaches using the company's HRIS to solve business needs/problems, while also enhancing the understanding and acceptance of the HRIS capabilities.
  • Perform duties in support of Director of Human Resources.
  • Schedule appointments and answer calls, as needed.
  • Proofread, correct and produce letters in final form.
  • Answer letters and route mail.
  • Assist with preparations for board and council meetings.
  • Process expense reports, invoices and premiums.

  • Actively contribute toward efforts to achieve our culture, engagement, and fundraising goals.
  • Participate in various Association-wide activities including but not limited to Aggie Muster, Aggie Ring Day, Reunions, Distinguished Alumni Gala, Pass It Back Day, All-Aggie Hullabaloo, Board and Leadership Council meetings, and internal event teams and task committees.
  • Serve as an ambassador by meeting our Team Expectations and fostering relationships with students, former students, and other constituents of Texas A&M.

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Required: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgement with sensitive information. Professional, approachable and service-oriented demeanor. Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills. High attention to detail and accuracy. Working knowledge of human resources principles, practices and procedures. Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Physical Capacity Requirements

Ability to work at a desk with frequent use of keyboard and monitor for significant portion of the workday. Lifting and carrying objects up to 10 pounds infrequently.

Experience

Required: One to two years of professional experience in Human Resources.

Preferred: Experience working for a non-profit organization.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University. PHR, SHRM-CP or similar certification.
