Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
  • Two years of professional experience in higher education learning support, tutoring, or student success is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to travel within the service area (Lee College main campus and Barbers Hill campus) is required.

Responsibilities

Starting Salary Range is $63,273.60 - $66,501. The initial salary offer is commensurate with education and related work experience.

Under the supervision of the Director of Learning Support Services, the Coordinator is responsible for the daily operations and ongoing development of the Learning Hub and Math Lab, including development of the Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction programs. The position also responsible for programming initiatives such as workshops, collaborations, and outreach, as well as the supervision, professional development, and ongoing support of Tutors, SI Coaches, and Student Workers. Consistent, high-quality academic learning support is maintained by coordinating Tutoring and SI assignments, implementing departmental standards of practice, collaborating with academic and technical faculty, and applying evidence-based approaches to tutoring and Supplemental Instruction practices.

The role supports students across disciplines by providing accessible, course-aligned academic support that promotes independent learning, problem-solving, persistence, and successful course completion. In alignment with Learning Support Services, service data is collected and analyzed to produce reports that support assessment, operational decision-making, budget planning, and strategic alignment. The position demonstrates a commitment to asset-based, student-centered practices and collaborates with faculty and campus partners to align the Math Lab, Learning Hub, and Supplemental Instruction services with institutional goals.

  • Support and abide by all rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines of Lee College and serve as an appropriate role model for students and employees at all times.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and services of the Learning Hub and Math Lab, including the Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction program, virtual services, and web-based learning support resources, instructional resources, workshops, outreach, and center-based learning support services.
  • Coordinate Tutor and SI Coach programming such as staffing hours, course assignments, workshops, team meetings, professional development. Also, coordinates student worker schedules, supplies, training materials, technology needs, and other operational resources.
  • Coordinate the daily use, maintenance, and continuous improvement of web-based scheduling, tracking, and virtual service platforms used for Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Learning Hub & Math Lab resources, student bookings, service documentation, usage reporting, and assessment of services.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Learning Support Service, maintain and coordinate an assigned annual budget by utilizing service data, staffing trends, and student demand to make budget recommendations that support effective coverage, cost effective monetary decisions, and overall program growth.
  • Create and support an annual plan for Learning Hub and Supplemental Instruction services with stated goals, measurable outcomes, and specific metrics that evaluate the effectiveness of services.
  • Produce evaluation reports for the Director of Learning Support Services that demonstrate progress toward annual goals, assess service effectiveness, and provide recommendations for improvement based on data and identified student needs.
  • Assess the effectiveness of units, services, and programs by developing, implementing, collecting, and analyzing surveys, focus groups, usage data, student engagement data, and other relevant measures.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Learning Support Services, coordinate the recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of Supplemental Instruction Coaches, Tutors, and Student Workers.
  • Coordinate Tutor, SI Coach, and student worker assignments to ensure appropriate service coverage, alignment with student demand, and effective support for courses and programs.
  • Develop and implement departmental professional development opportunities and trainings to improve individual capacity and department performance, including required Fall and Spring professional development for Supplemental Instruction Coaches, Tutors, and Student Workers.
  • Foster ongoing professional growth of Tutors and SI Coaches by identifying strengths, providing targeted training, offering coaching feedback, and creating opportunities for skill development and leadership.
  • Establish and implement policies, procedures, and standards of practice that cultivate a student-centered, respectful, productive, and inclusive learning and working environment for students and employees.
  • Provide problem-solving assistance and guidance for students, Supplemental Instruction Coaches, Tutors, and student workers.
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with faculty, division chairs, vice presidents, student services, academic departments, technical programs, and campus partners to develop, grow, and communicate Learning Hub and Supplemental Instruction services.
  • Collaborate with other Learning Support Services Coordinators to streamline services, strengthen referrals, and enhance student learning across campus.
  • Develop initiatives that increase student utilization of Math Lab, Learning Hub, and Supplemental Instruction services, including outreach, classroom presentations, workshops, events, and campus engagement strategies.
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic faculty, technical faculty, division chairs, and campus partners to align services with course expectations, student learning needs, and institutional goals.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop communication strategies and materials for activities, projects, programs, and events, including flyers, brochures, publications, social media, web content, and other promotional resources.
  • Provide excellent customer service and professional communication when responding to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, administration, campus partners, and outside parties.
  • Refer students to appropriate learning support services, student support services, academic departments, and campus resources as needed.
  • Participate in professional development activities, both on campus and off campus, to remain current in learning support, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, student success, supervision, and higher education best practices.
  • Attend mandatory supervisory, departmental, planning, and college meetings as required.
  • Participate in college committees, workgroups, and institutional initiatives as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s (or higher)degree
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in higher education within a learning support service setting, tutoring, or student success setting
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for reporting and data tracking
  • Ability to supervise, train, support, and evaluate tutors, student workers, and/or student employees
  • Working knowledge of developmental mathematics, credit mathematics, and courses with significant quantitative or mathematical content
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, analyze, and maintain reports related to learning support service utilization and student success outcomes
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel within the service area (locations include the Lee College main campus and Barbers Hill campus)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience supervising, training, and coaching tutors, Supplemental Instruction leaders, and/or Student Workers
  • Certification, training, or professional development through ACTP, CRLA, UMKC Supplemental Instruction, or another recognized tutoring, peer learning, or academic support organization
  • Experience supporting students with varied academic, personal, or access-related needs within a higher education environment
